Our children’s diet is far different from Oliver Twist’s. They have plenty to eat and a wide variety of food to choose from. Yet they are choosey and take only a limited variety of food that their taste buds would tolerate. We don’t have to be experts of children to know that they hate vegetables and maybe even some fruits. But they love cakes, ice-creams, sweets, burgers and the like. What can we make out of this? I can only say that it is the basic human nature at work. We all have the tendency to seek after pleasure and avoid unpleasant things.
As children grow older, their taste buds change (hopefully). They are more willing to go for what is good for their health and less for the “junk.” It is a process of maturation. So for those parents who are concerned about their children’s sweet diet, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It is possible for them to change. The interim measure from now (the present) to then (the future) is that parents need to put on the brakes for them since they are not matured enough to apply their own brakes. For now adults need to be responsible for the children’s choice of food.
